11:50 pm - informal poll?
|
I'm just wondering - what would it take for you to go to a therapist for something? Would you go if you were severely depressed or manic or stressed or anxious or moody or unhappy? What about mildly so?
There are just times in my life (and this is one of those times) when I kind of think I could get something out of seeing a therapist just on a short-term one-or-two time basis sort of thing, to sort stuff out in my head, to give a professional opinion on things, whatever. But at the same time, I always feel like I should be able to handle everything myself, and I feel ashamed just wondering if I should go or not; I imagine I would feel even more shame if I ever broke down and went. I would feel like I failed myself somehow.
I know it's ridiculous. But it's also a very common feeling and we've discussed it a bit in my Psych class. And I was wondering if any of you guys have ever experienced anything like that, or for those of you who may have actually gone to therapy for whatever reason, I'm curious why you decided you needed to take that step, and whether it was worth it for you to do so. What did you go to therapy for?
I realize you may not want to discuss this on my lj. Feel free to post anonymously to this post; I'm not locking it. Or email me, or facebook message me, or talk to me on AIM, or post something anonymously in my facebook honesty box if you don't want others to see it. But I would really like to hear opinions on any/all of these things if you're willing to share. Thanks.

1:45 pm - sticky fingers
|
Dear Hershey's Candy Company,
The caramel goes *INSIDE* the Reese's cups. As in, inside the actual chocolate. You know, where you put the peanut butter. It does NOT merely go inside the wrapper.
It was still delicious. But very sticky.
Some love, Andrea

3:58 pm - Various Things In My Pants
|
I have a ton of stuff (read: homework) to do, but I'm feeling unproductive at the moment. And I've been going through all my old LJ entries and compiling all my written accounts of my dreams into a Word doc, and while doing so I stumbled across various memes and things. And so in my counterproductive state, I have decided to bring this back.

9:05 pm - blood drive
|
|
There has been a blood drive going on in my dorm all week, and I don't mind blood or needles or anything like that. But seriously? Walking past the common room and looking through the window-covered wall and seeing all these bodies lying on tables wrapped in bandages? Slightly creepy.

1. reply with your name and i will write something i like about you. 2. i will then tell what song reminds me of you. 3. if i were to apply an o'clock to you, i'll tell you what it would be. 4. i will try to name a single word that best describes you. 5. i'll tell you the most memorable moment i've had with you. 6. i will tell you what color you remind me of. 7. i'll then tell you something that i've always wondered about you. 8. put this in your journal.

Hmm. I was talking to Mike about religion tonight, and you know what, I think I really have come to that point where I can look at myself and what I believe and how I live my life and say that I'm actually atheist.
If you had told me a few years ago that I would not only consider myself atheist now, but be relatively content with that consideration, I would have laughed in your face.
I'm also becoming surprisingly more liberal in these last couple years. Again, this phases me surprisingly little.

11:53 pm - emu
|
EMU spent one million dollars to hire a marketing person to come up with a good slogan-type-thing for us so we can gain a bit of a good reputation back after that whole fiasco last year. Guess what they came up with? "Education first."
OMG brilliant. I'm *SO* glad we spent a million dollars on that. -_- Oh Eastern. You are so pathetic sometimes, but at least you're cause for a good laugh.
In all seriousness though, I do love EMU and it's really unfortunate that everyone across the country now thinks we're a "ghetto school" where there's lots of crime and lax security and whatnot. There's a ton going for EMU, they just don't always know how to promote such things. Instead they spend money promoting "Education first" which you'd think would be a freaking no-brainer since 1. we're a college and 2. we're even a *teaching* school. But I guess it's good they explicitly say "education first" now. Or I would have *no* idea that this education thing was being valued.

We have 3 months, not 3 days. And this summer is going to be like: I honestly don't want to go. i was going to take some stomach fat and attach it to her to hold for a second while I scrape the bowl to make sure all the flour gets mixed in. She holds it, alright, but she pushes the SUPER FAST POWER button and cookie dough goes flying all over the kitchen.
On Thanksgiving, my uncle and dad start discussing growing up in small town Hudson, telling many amusing stories, including the following regarding the fire station: - One cold day, the firehouse garage door froze shut, and when they received a call, they had to ram the fire truck through the door to the staircase and my hands are full, of course, so I attempt to pull on the handle with my pinky. Of course, this door is a fire door, and is huge and metal and very heavy/difficult to open in a regular situation, but of course not. I am physically creatively incapable. Blegh.

1:10 pm - i almost got to 10 this time
|
The secret thing going around reminds/reminded me of that say-10-things-you-would-never-say-to-anyone-and-then-never-talk-about-it-again-ever thing that has gone around (a couple times) in the past. And I realized I actually had some stuff to say this time. I'm really sticking with the don't-ever-talk-about-it-again part, though. You can speculate all you want, and comment away if you're so moved, but my lips are sealed.

I am currently in an ongoing struggle with the combination lock that used to be on my little locker in the bathroom. It's not so much a battle of strength as a battle of wits. ( Unfortunately, the lock is winning. )
You know you've hit a pathetic low in your life when an inanimate object can outsmart you.
Perhaps I just need sleep. Lots and lots of sleep.

Now, I love snow and winter and we totally got jipped this year. But I'm not gunna lie. The sun is so haaaaaaaaaappy! Today it actually looked like EMU's campus was populated rather than a ghost town! There were actually people walking around, standing around, OUTSIDE. It was sooooo weird.
The downside is now I'm expecting spring/summer and there is still like 6 weeks of school. DOOM.

So over break Claire's was having an awesome sale - 10 pairs of earrings for $5. So today I was sorting through/putting away my new purchases and I decided to count how many I have total.
I have 99 pairs of earrings, not counting broken ones, incomplete sets, or the ones I have at home.
